Instant Success
I had been itching to get into fantasy football for awhile, but previously my friends had played in a league owned by someone I didn’t know. We finally started our own league in 2015. I’m sure they wish now that they had never invited me. I researched extensively leading up to the draft, where I landed the last pick. I went against my gut with my first ever pick to take CJ Anderson, who would have a rough season. Luckily it was a snake draft, so I made up for that mistake by taking Julio 11th overall. Perhaps no move was more important than picking up David Johnson off waivers mid-season. His wild stretch to end the year carried Jurrasic Parkey to an easy finish, and just like that I had my first fantasy football championship.

After three seasons of failing to reach the title game, Todd Todd Todd Todd Todd Todd turned things around in 2019. The recipe was extremely simple- draft well. Each of my first four picks were consistently in the lineup and would eventually start the championship game. Only QB and K rotated throughout the season. I finished as the league’s high scorer and cruised to a 56 point win in the semifinals. The championship was a nail biter, but two touchdowns each from Gurley, Jones, and Hill was enough to complete my second fantasy championship title.

PNDL Champions!
The Swans entered 2019 with a chip on their shoulder. Following a dominant 13-1 regular season in 2018, a 5 point loss in the title game left the squad heartbroken. But they were still a clear contender heading into year two of the league. Wil Lutz’s 58 yard field goal as time expired on Monday night gave the Swans a wild Week 1 victory over the Groot Ninjas, but the fun was just beginning.
The Swans followed the Week 1 thriller with a modest victory over Team Keegan, and then proceeded to run over the rest of the league. They raced out to a 12-0 start, winning by an average of 41 points. The perfect season was broken up in a Week 13 loss to The Shady Bunch, before a narrow Week 14 win capped a 13-1 regular season crown.
The semifinal opponent was Billy’s Bills, the same team who defeated the Swans in the championship a year earlier. This time they would be no match, as the Swans ran away with a 210.0-159.52 win. It wouldn’t mean anything without finishing the job the following week.
You can’t help but feel bad for the Fighting Snails. They had a special season their selves, rebounding from a 3-11 2018 to an 8-6 season and a convincing semifinal win. But they were simply overmatched at every level. Saquon Barkley led the charge with 44.90 points, and Mahomes, McCaffrey, Aaron Jones, and Michael Thomas each chipped in 25+. The final tally ended at 205.54-149.28. It was their fifth game of the season scoring 200+ points- no other team accomplished the feat. We may never see a better team. The revenge tour was complete, and the Swans finally had their hands on the trophy.

Diggs Makes it Back-to-Back
The Swans raced out to a 6-1 start in defense of their title. Along with the Groot Ninjas and Billy’s Bills, it became a three team race for the regular season championship. The Groot Ninjas led the league in scoring but the Swans swept them, and the three teams each finished at 10-4. Ultimately, a 0.10 point loss in Week 13 was the difference between the 1 and 3 seed.
The Swans met Billy’s Bills for the third year in a row. Their performance left much to be desired, but Mahomes, Aaron Jones, and Diggs did enough to pull out a 143.26-128.40 victory. Mahomes outscored Roethlisberger by 23 to make the difference.
The Groot Ninjas rolled Turn Your Head and Goff to set up what would become an absolute classic. The Ninjas were the consensus favorite, and showed why immediately. Alvin Kamara rushed for 6 touchdowns and 56.70 points on Friday night, and it looked like the Ninjas might run away with it. Mike Evans dropped 35.10 on Saturday to keep things interesting, but things looked bleak heading into Monday night.
The situation was clear: Stefon Diggs needed 29 points. He had only reached 21 points twice in 2020. But that stat became irrelevant when he caught a 50 yard touchdown pass towards the end of the first half. Then he caught an 18 yard touchdown to start the third quarter, and Diggs entered the fourth needing only a 0.88 points. He would get 11.2 to complete the wildest comeback in PNDL history and make the Swans back-to-back champions.

Call it a Dynasty
The back-to-back champion Swans entered 2021 looking to defend their throne once again. They followed a Week 1 loss with four wins in a row before falling to 4-3. A Week 9 loss to the Groot Ninjas, where the Swans managed only 102 points, left them at 5-4 and with their playoff hopes in question. A strong finish got them to 9-5 and the two seed.
The familiar foe Billy’s Bills met them in the semis. Neither team did much outside of QB and TE, where Andrews and Kelce each dropped 30. A thrilling 149.49-144.64 win sent the Swans to the title game for the fourth year in a row.
The Groot Ninjas awaited, and anticipation was high after the thriller from the year before. This year, however, would be no contest. Mahomes, AJ Brown, Higgins, and Andrews each dropped 20+ with plenty of contributions elsewhere. Meanwhile, the Groot Ninjas had their worst game of the season. The outcome: a 192.22-103.84 blowout and third-consecutive championship for the Swans.

The Swans Four-Peat
Nobody roots for the three-time defending champion- there was a target on the Swans from day one. But the addition of a second quarterback spot allowed the Mahomes-Allen duo to lead the Swans to a 7-0 start. A perfect season briefly seemed attainable. But after limping into the playoffs with a 3-4 finish, the Swans appeared more vulnerable than ever.
For the fifth consecutive year, a playoff match against Billy’s Bills was in order. The Swans continued to get revenge for the 2018 championship loss by eliminating the Bills for the fourth year in a row by a dominant 230.50-152.56 margin. The QBs combined for 80, with McCaffrey, Saquon, and AJ Brown each contributing 20+.Â
The 12-2 regular season champion The Shady Bunch was the title game opponent. The QBs combined for 54, but off games from Aaron Jones, Mark Andrews, and Stefon Diggs left the door open for The Shady Bunch. But no Christmas miracle came- strong Monday night scores from Ekeler and Keenan Allen wouldn’t be enough. Tee Higgins and Saquon carried the load, and Saquon was named Super Bowl MVP for his 23.30 points. After a few injury-plagued seasons the once-prodigy finally had his defining performance, and the Swans had captured a ridiculous fourth title in a row.

A Ring for the Thumb
Another year, another strong regular season for the Swans who finished 11-3 and with the first seed in the playoffs. But injuries and age left significant holes in the roster. Most noticeably, losing JK Dobbins Week 1 and Mark Andrews Week 11 left the Tight End and Running Back positions in a precarious spot. Combined with a disappointing season from Patrick Mahomes, and playoff success was no guarantee.
Round one of the playoffs brought Goff to See The Wizard, who had handed the Swans two of their three regular season losses. Three was too much to ask for, as the Swans won handedly behind a weak performance from Goff to See The Wizard and a massive 41 points from Christian McCaffrey.
The Shady Bunch waited in the championship seeking revenge for last year’s loss. The young star Puka Nacua dropped 28 points on Thursday for a fast start. Sunday left The Shady Bunch in a good spot as kicker Jason Sanders outscored the combination of Stefon Diggs, DJ Moore, and Dalton Kincaid by 11. The outlook was bleak for the Swans entering Monday night; down 18 with McCaffrey and two defenders against Brock Purdy and Rashod Bateman. Four interceptions later and the Swans had an 11 point victory. Five titles in a row. Appreciate the greatness of the Ghengis Swans.
